iCandy catches up with Michael on his photographic vision

Do you feel your art and design background helped with your photography?
Absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt it has played a big part in my development within photography and illustration. The training I received in both art and design and classical animation has given me a very strong foundation to work from.

Along with true friends I have met through art I would not be the person I am today. I was lucky enough to have people around me confident in what I could achieve, always pushing, expecting more. I am also thankful for the people around me that did not have the belief, who gave me the drive to do what I do.

How would you define a beautiful image?
I don’t think one person can define beauty, everybody is different and everybody see’s beauty in a different way. For me an image has to have several elements to satisfy my sometimes over critical mind.

What next boundary would you would like to push?
I’m currently working on merging classical animation, photography, and design together in a series of images. It is bringing some interesting results to the table and hopefully people will appreciate the work. I have other aspects I am actively pursuing but I’ll keep that one as a surprise.

What advice can you give potential models and make-up artists wanting to work with you?
If I was to give one piece of advice I would say ‘’be as creative as you possibly can be, find your style, don’t stay in the comfort zone push it to the maximum every time, and don’t forget to enjoy the journey’’

Finish the sentence “Ireland… Is where I was born, where my family are, where I belong, where my heart is and where my heart will return.

What’s your next move?
As Homer Simpson once said ‘’ that’s it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I’m going to clown college!
