Ni Ni Law

Ni Ni Law

There’s a lot more to modelling than meets the eye (you ‘eard!) and keeping a modelling career going for any decent amount of time takes a lot of hard work and attitude, not to mention being drop dead gorgeous at the drop of a hat. So, having first started modelling aged just fourteen and now aged 27, you don’t even have to look at these pictures to know Ni Ni Law has got the whole package – but you’d be crazy not to as they are steaming!

With a passion for fashion, Ni Ni soon had a successful management career in fashion retail and put modelling on the back burner. However, after an accident in 2007, Ni Ni’s zeal for modelling was reawakened for which we are truly thankful! She is now more inspired than ever to pursue a career in modelling, and is working with some big names – and there’s plenty more to boot(y)…

Ni Ni has a singularly clear understanding of the industry and is passionate about giving as much as she takes from modelling. To that end, Ni Ni continues to put a lot of time into helping younger models get inspired and focused on what they want to achieve. It’s all part of her bigger plan to one day retire to a distant beach and spend the days reading and writing – which is funny, because my dream is to one day become a glamour model. Weird.

You got into modelling at a very young age. How did that happen?
I was with my mum, and a lady approached me to ask if I wanted to do some hair modelling. It was put in the Black hair magazine. I remember bringing the magazine into school to show people – I was really excited. After that, I was asked to model in a fashion show for a young designer. I did many fashion shows in the summer holidays after that. My sister and I received model training on how to walk – It was all just a bit of fun. At 16 I went to America and was scouted by elite models. I couldn’t go back because my parents wanted me to finish my studies instead. I don’t regret that one bit now – I have achieved so much more by finishing school. Before I knew it, I had turned commercial and I was featuring in music videos.

What happened in 2007 to reawaken your passion for modelling?
As with so many young people at the moment, I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I went to a club for New Year’s in 2006 and there was a shooting. A bullet bounced off the floor and hit me in my left leg. Luckily, it was mostly muscle and tissue damage. It gave my life a whole new meaning. I was a real party girl, always at the latest events – it was so much fun. After the shooting, I began to cherish everything I had as a gift. Modelling is a way to prove to myself I can still do what I did before – and even better.

I understand you’re a bit of a writer. What do you write, and what about writing do you enjoy?
I became interested in writing, after my accident, as a way to express the feelings I didn’t feel I could talk about with my friends and family. It was a great way for me to express myself. Three years later, my writing has become a more positive expression. I am still writing and love it. The subjects vary depending on what’s going on in my life. I may turn it into a book at some point, but for now I am happy to just keep it a secret diary.

Who in the industry do you really respect, or aspire to be like?
I respect most of the people I have worked with in the industry. I could not name one – there are so many talented, determined people out there following their dreams no matter what hurdles they meet. I aspire to be successful within myself, and help others along the way.

What does modelling mean to you?
It is a way of playing a different character for the day; bringing out my inner sexiness, dressing up, and meeting new people. Being inspired and inspiring others. Seeing your work and feeling proud of what you have achieved. Modelling is now part of me. I feel truly grateful.

You describe yourself as a keen traveller. If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would that be?
I could not pin point one place I really want to go. I have been travelling since the age of eighteen, and will continue to do so until I find my beach home! I am a bit of an adventurer and love to explore other countries and their cultures. My next trip is going to be Thailand.

What’s the worst thing about modelling or the modelling industry?
Being judged by your photos. You are not going to see me walking down the road, half naked, with tons of makeup on. Away from the camera, I am a natural, silly, hard working girl with ambitions. You have to take the rough with the smooth in this industry, and I will keep doing what I love regardless.
